PM: Magnificent Performance

In a column for Melbourne’s Herald Sun, Australian Prime Minister John Howard has lauded the Australian cricket team for its performance that saw them regain the Ashes.

“With painstaking and clinical precision, the Australian XI has delivered the result that fans had hoped for following last year’s titanic struggle in England,” Howard wrote.

“I congratulate Ricky Ponting and his team on three magnificent performances and look forward to the remaining two Tests in Melbourne and Sydney.”

Howard spoke of the scene at Parliament during the second test in Adelaide: “I know many MPs during Question Time in Parliament that day were being handed important messages detailing the latest scores.”

The Prime Minister was full of praise for legendary spin bowler Shane Warne, who is just one wicket away from his unprecedented 700 wicket milestone.

“I look forward to him achieving that incredible feat on his home ground during the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. He is truly a champion bowler.”

The Australian Prime Minister is a self described cricket tragic and an avid follower of the Australian cricket team.
