Pietersen knee gets all clear

A scan of Kevin Pietersen’s knee revealed no major damage, so he can play in the remainder of the Natwest Series.

Pietersen was struck on the knee at The Oval, and it left him in serious discomfort. Playing in the next match, he was hit again. He was clearly in pain, but carried on batting before he was dismissed for 6.

When fielding, Pietersen struggled. He was unable to run properly, and England’s appeals for a substitute fielder were denied by the umpires, as he entered the match with the injury.

His knee has been a problem since the Indian tour, but after being struck at the oval, he vowed to carry on despite the pain, saying: “We’ve lost Flintoff, Giles, Jones, Vaughan and Anderson so if I went down as well it’s not going to help matters is it.”
