Pawar and Morgan nominated

Sharad Pawar and David Morgan will both contest the position for the presidency of the ICC after the current president, Percy Sonn, finishes his stint at the helm.

Pawar, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and Morgan, the chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board both forwarded their nominations to the ICC before the deadline on Monday, with Pawar the firm favorite for the role.

The nominations were confirmed in an ICC press release.

“The nominations deadline for the post of next ICC President passed on December 31 and the ICC can confirm that it has received two candidates for the position,” it said.

“Chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board David Morgan and President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India Sharad Pawar have been nominated to succeed current ICC President Percy Sonn when his term ends.”

Sonn will finish his term in June 2008, but his successor will be announced as early as June 2007.
