Panel for Indian coach selection

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named a six-man panel, which over the next few days will discuss and then finally decide on who should be India’s next coach.

The committee includes former Test players Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and Srinivas Venkataraghavan, apart from Ranbir Singh Mahendra, the president of the board, who will head the panel, SK Nair, the board’s secretary, who will be the convenor, and Jagmohan Dalmiya.

The committee will meet for the first time this Sunday in Kolkata to review the already received applications, which include those from Greg Chappell and Dean Jones, while Tom Moody and Dav Whatmore are also rumoured to have sent one as well.

Moody is thought to have the backing of John Wright, who gave up the job after the recent series against Pakistan, after refusing a contract extension to spend more time with his family back in New Zealand.
