No legal action by Inzamam

Following his four-match ban for bringing the game into disrepute after his actions in the fourth Test against England at The Oval when umpire Darrell Hair awarded five penalty runs to England with the opinion that Pakistan had deliberately altered the condition of the ball, Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq is keen to put the incident behind him and will not be seeking any legal action against the umpire.

Despite standing by his decision to keep his team in the changing rooms after the tea break as a protest against the decision, Inzamam says that he will follow the principles of his religion and “forgive and forget”.

He says that now he has been cleared of what he considers a much more serious charge of ball-tampering, or “cheating” as he has referred to it, he wants to bury the matter and believes there is no reason for any action to be taken.

Inzamam is much happier to have taken a four-match ban for his actions than to have had to live with “the stigma of cheating”.

Inzamam will miss the group stages and semi-finals, if Pakistan qualify, of the ICC Champions Trophy later this month. Younis Khan has been named as his replacement.
