Murali reaches 1000th wicket

Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan reached his 1000th Test and ODI wicket yesterday in his 100th Test match after dismissing Bangladesh wicket-keeper Khaled Mashud in the first of two Tests at Chittagong in Bangladesh.

In what has been a stunning yet controversial career to date, Muraliatharan has taken 593 Test wickets and 411 ODI wickets for a total tally of 1004 international wickets at a Test bowling average of 22.47 and an ODI bowling average of 23.05.

If he gains another seven Test wickets, Murali will become only the second player after Shane Warne to reach 600 Test wickets.

Murali has also become only the second Sri Lankan player to make 100 test appearances. The only other player being team mate Sanath Jayasuriya.

Players:
Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne
