Miserable birthday for Warne

Shane Warne had a miserable 37th birthday after being hit in the head while batting in Hampshire’s county game against Worcestershire.

Warne who was promoted up the order to score quick runs struck three quick fours, but shortly after was struck in between the grill of the helmet from a delivery by Matt Mason.

Warne went off the field, but returned later with Hampshire struggling at 121-8, but only lasted a further four deliveries before being caught behind off the bowling of Zaheer Khan.

Worcestershire finished up winning the game through the Duckworth-Lewis method thanks to a quick-fire innings of 32 from New Zealander Lou Vincent.

Earlier in the day, Warne has awarded an honorary doctorate from Southampton Solent University for services to cricket.
