KP taken to hospital for scans

Kevin Pietersen has been taken to hospital for scans after suffering a blow to the ribs from a Glenn McGrath bouncer during the first Commonwealth Bank one-day international in Melbourne today.

Pietersen who top scored for England on 82 appeared to be in plenty of pain from the shorter McGrath delivery during the 39th over.

TV replays showed heavy bruising in the rib cage area as the English physio attended to Pietersen on the field. He lasted another 3 overs before falling to Stuart Clark for 82 and was then taken to a nearby hospital for regulation scans.
