Jones looking at comeback

England pace bowler Simon Jones is anticipating a return to county cricket in April.

The 2005 Ashes hero was struck down by a severe ankle injury early in 2006 and was unable to make it back in time for England’s ill-fated campaign to retain the Ashes.

“I’m working hard and pushing for next season,” he told BBC Sport.

Jones is looking forward to his return to county side Glamorgan under new coach Adrian Shaw.

“Adrian’s been at the club a long time, he knows the game and it will work out well for him,” he said.

“The club has been struggling a bit financially so they have to be careful, and Adrian was the obvious choice to take over.

“He’s a good motivator and someone who is straight down the line, if someone needs a kick he’ll give it to them.

“We all respect him immensely and wish him all the best in the job.”

It’s not all good news for England’s bowlers though, with Matthew Hoggard sitting out the fifth and final Ashes Test with a side strain.

Hoggard, who has been England’s best bowler throughout the Ashes, with 13 wickets at 37 runs, has been replaced in the side with James Anderson.
