Harmison ruled out of Mumbai

Fast bowler Steve Harmison’s shin has become the fifth item on the England injury list ahead of the Third Test against India in Mumbai.

Harmison, who only bowled four overs in the fourth innings of England’s defeat at Mohali, was ruled out following a series of X-Rays on his shin this morning. With fellow Ashes winners Ashley Giles and Simon Jones already missing, England’s bowling attack will have a distinctly unfamiliar look to it.

With Matthew Hoggard, Andrew Flintoff and Monty Panesar inked in to the line up at Mumbai, Shaun Udal now seems certain to add a second prong to the spin attack with James Anderson and Liam Plunkett battling to replace Harmison.

The Durham paceman, despite being labelled as a fragile bowler earlier in his career, had not missed a Test for England since the tour of Sri Lanka in late 2003 and has 159 wickets in 41 Tests for his country.
