25 caps?

This is heading towards a 'one cap wonder' thread, as in everyone wondered how on earth they even got one. Pigott & Wells certainly belong there, along with Gavin Hamilton of course.

Thought Graeme Hick was worth a mention, just because of the disappointment factor. His average of 31 in 65 tests might be a little too high, though.
I don't think Hick belongs there. Not because he wasn't disappointing, but because there were others far worse than him.

Hick was a wonderful player of spin. He looked a class apart from the rest of that lineup when England toured India in '93.

So the worst test players from Sussex + Sami? ITSTL. :p

Wonderful?

I've never seen a player look more at sea than him against leg spin.

Haha, thought that was stretching it a bit after I posted it. :p Looked up his stats, averaged in the 40s in 2 different Ashes series against Warne, which is decent I guess.

Warne probably felt sorry for him and took it easy:p

Though seriously,Hick was very poor against Leg Spin.

Another name that could be included here is Vikram Solanki.Somehow managed to play 51 Test Matches. What wouldn't Sami and Vikram give to have their respective averages swapped.Sami averaging 26 with the bowl.Vikram averaging 50 with the bat.

Chris Lewis is waving hello from his prison cell.

32 tests 1105 runs @ 23.02 and 93 wickets @ 37.52 is a dreadful return for someone who arguably had as much natural talent as any player to play for England in the last 20 years.

Again just like Hick,Lewis is better than a lot of players. His figures are certainly not as atrocious as Ramprakah's for example. If we judge players against the talent they possessed, then the number of 'bad' players would be huge.

Not to mention that "talent" means very different things from person to person. A lot of people call a player "talented" when they mean "stylish".

Debris

International 12th Man
Graeme Wood also deserves a mention. Averaged 31 in 59 tests and reduced the average of anyone batting with him by at least 5. :D

Phil Tufnell for 12th man.

I'd make a case for both Hick and Ramprakash to be in there based on their FC records. To average 31 and 27 respectively in Tests is appalling for two such obviously talented players.

Ignoring the previously mentioned flaws in that team, Ian Greig knocks spots off all of them.

Yep.

And Athey's and Jarvis' and Little Timmy's selections are unfair because they didn't play Tests while at Sussex. Chris Adams could be drafted in. And perhaps Tony Dodemaide.

tbf to Hick he did average ~50 for a few years (1992-1995?)

Fair call on Ramps, though.

I still LOL when I se the footage of him dancing down the deck to Warne in 93 and missing the ball by a metre to be stumped by about seven feet playing a forward defensive shot. I'm sure Robelinda would have that footage somewhere

/hint.
