Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Quite happy with my side has a decent balance, lots of batting and a nice balance, I think:

1. Trevor Goddard
2. Bill Lawry
3. John Edrich
4. Doug Walters
5. Graeme Pollock
6. Garry Sobers
7. Ian Chappel
8. Denis Lindsay
9. Peter Pollock
10. Garth McKenzie
11. Derek Underwood

Yeah, I know Chappelli at 7, but Goddard gets in for his bowling, and he batted almost exclusively as an opener. if it's a raging turner Bedi can come in for Goddard and they can all move up a place.

Thats Interesting. I have never really tried to know who were active Test cricketers when I was born. Now that I checked I am really impressed by the names (and depressed to realise how old I am and that players I thought were before my time were actually very active and for some their best was yet to come) :)

Openers :
There was an embarrassment of riches around the world at the top of the order.
  • England had Hutton and Washbrook with the outstanding Reggie Simpson as a choice.
  • South Africa had Eric Rowan and the great Bruce Mitchell.
  • India had Merchant, Mushtaq Ali and Mankad
  • West Indies had their best pair for a very long time in Rae and Stollemeyer.
  • Australia had Morris and Bil Brown and New Zealand had one of their all time greats in Bert Sutcliffe.

Middle Order :
This was equally impressive. Have a look at these names
  • Compton
  • Edrich
  • Harvey
  • Hassett
  • Weekes
  • Worrell
  • Walcott
  • Nourse
  • Donnelly
  • Hazare
  • Amarnath
  • John Reid

All Rounders

In Miller Australia had her greatest all rounder till date and in Colin McCool they had a spinning all rounder to rank with Hordern before him and Benaud who followed. They also had Sam Loxton. India had Mankad, England Bailey (and Yardley) and South Africa Goddard. There were others like Amarnath, Worrell, Lindwall who were more than useful in their secondary skills.

Wicket Keepers
Their were two fabulous wicket keeping all rounders in Clyde Walcott and Walter Wade.
Australia's Don Tallon whom Bradman considered the greatest keeper of all times was no mug with the bat either.

Fast to Medium Pace.

In Miller and Lindwall Australia had her greatest fast bowling pair of all times. South Africa's Cuan McCarthy was a pretty intimidating speedster too.

It was a very good time for medium to medium fast bowlers also.
England had Bedser and Bailey while Australia had Loxton and Johnston

Spinners
Their was a lot of variety in spin bowling in almost all countries . . .

  • Australia had Ian Johnson(RAOS, Doug Ring and Colin McCool (Both leg spinners)
  • England had Laker(RAOS), Doug Wright, Hollies and Roly Jenkins (all leg spinners)
  • India had Mankad (LAS)
  • South Africa had Tayfield (RAOS), Norman Mann (LAS) and Athol Rowan (RAOS)

. . .but the best of spin was to come starting with that summer in England. Four months after my birth, Valentine and Ramaddin inflicted a cruching 3-1 defeat on England, the first series win by Windies. Similarly the best of Laker and Mankad was yet to come. Thus one looks towards Austrlia for the spinners in the side.

Here is my touring squad for a world side to visit Mars :)

Worrell (Capt)	Middle 147

Walcott (WK)	Middle 45

Miller AR/RAF	40.5	22.7

Astonished to see Sadiq in there btw, but that says more about my ignorance than anything else.

Haha, yeah, didn't think, just pasted them in the order they were on the table :p
Impressive how Asif has managed to hold on to his spot despite taking time off for recreational activities.
