Australia and South Africa both seem to be sailing on the same boat in terms of not knowing who should be the man to lead the side into the future and that's really not a good thing.

For South Africa the best move could be to either make Amla the captain or look at their domestic sides and choose a bloke who has leadership qualities.

I'm not aware of his record but Davy Jacobs is someone who really impressed me with captaincy and confidence during the Champions league, so if his stats are decent then he is someone well worth considering.
Thankfully they are not. Jacobs talks a good game and he didn't score a run after the Champions League and was epic fail in the domestic 20/20, averaged about 10 with a S/R of 75.

Have looked it up and turns out I'm wrong, but of course. Amla has captained at just about every level, including SA under-19s and the Dolphins. Pretty much settles it for mine. Only thing barring him is if they want to have the same captain for ODIs and T20s, assuming Amla continues not to play T20.
Not sure how successful he was

Has to be Amla for me.. Seems to be remarkably calm and serene under pressure. I believe that is what South Africa need the most. And Smith is just quitting captaincy, he is not leaving ODIs, is he?

He isn't, he indicated before the WC that he wants to play all 3 formats internationally but on current form he doesn't warrant selection for either ODIs or 20/20s. Smith had a great WC from a captaincy POV, South Africa bowled out all their opponents bar NZ and even then, Smith's bowling changes paid off and NZ were restricted to a total that was easily attainable.

Jacques Rudolph was being touted as a candidate for the ODI captaincy as Rudolph has been appointed captain of the A team but CSA said yesterday that the new captain would be one of the current 20 centrally contracted players and they would not go outside that.

He was young and he only lasted a season. The reason given was so he could concentrate on his batting but I think he found it hard.

Of course, it is a different situation 5-6 years on and he is now an established international. I wouldnt, however, use his franchise experience as a credential.

Amla. Watching him stroke his epic beard whilst pondering over his next tactical decision would be so awesome.

I'd wanna see Mr.Cool, Hashim Amla as the next skipper of SAF ODI side. Fat Gray looks good for 2-3 more years as the test skipper!

ABdV should never captain the team nor keep the wickets. Lets not burden the kid!

fetched them a seried in australia though. was pretty good from memory.
+1. He was excellent there!

But now Tahir is in the team and I dont think it makes any sense to have 2 spinners on South African soils. Even Robbie P is better than JB.

Why not? What other markers will you then use to gauge if he is captaincy material?

haha.......yeah......he would remind me of Gandalf in LOTR

Would be awesome! A sufi saint poetically plotting the downfall of his competitors!

Exactly. Being the third best spinner in South Africa has never been much of a case for being in international cricket.

Females 12-15 the world over would be inconsolable if ABDeV is made captain and he stops making music.
AB has about as much hair on top nowadays that most men have downstairs. AB's school mate and current Springbok, Wynand (Meisiekind) Olivier is more what gets the young Afrikaner girls going.

The man himself!

Who do you think should get the job?

I've put in a few options, the ones i think are most likely to have the next captain, but if there are others then feel free to mention them.

My vote would go to AB De Villiers.
AB should not become captain it will be to much work for him and he will loose his form
