Why does **** like this always happen to Ponting? This guy is has some bad luck. Every time he comes to India, some **** happens on or off the field.

Sad. Just pay for it.

Well the ICC shouldn't pay for it.... CA or Ponting himself should but anyway, it's what - a couple hundred bucks probably? I don't see the big deal at ALL here. It's not like CA or Ponting is going to go broke paying for it.

Some property was accidentally damaged, the guy even apologized...send him a bill and the matter is closed. What do you want from him? Hell, I wouldn't have even thought of issuing an official apology for something so inane, just tell them that we accidentaly damaged something, and we'll pay for it. It's not like Ponting threw something at a staff or player or something, which WOULD require a formal apology, a hearing, etc...but.....a TV broke...the horror.....I have no clue what the local association is thinking. Either this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard or something else went on.

The fact that this is even a 'story' on cricinfo is hilarious. Forget the fact that an actual hearing that has to be convened. FFS, do people have nothing better to do in the middle of a world cup?

Poor Ricky. The worst part is that I actually feel for Ricky Ponting - I know the relationship between Ind/Aus hasn't been great on the field but this is so petty and ridiculous.

Poor Ricky. The worst part is that I actually feel for Ricky Ponting, and that makes me even madder at the GCA.
Imagine the conversation at that hypothetical meeting..

"So, erm.. Ricky, what exactly did you throw at the screen, your bat or your box?"

Haha, and what would the punishment be?

Well before the punishment, what exactly is the charge? Breaking a TV is not a cricketing crime that involves the ICC....

ICC code of conduct for players and team officials:

2.1.2 Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or
fixtures and fittings during an International Match.

Note: Article 2.1.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket
actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which
intentionally or negligently results in damage to the advertising boards,
boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures
and fittings.

Not that it's not a bit silly... but if you look at the ICC website you can see quite a few players have been done under this in the past.

Haha OK, well I suppose it's at least under the ICC purview then...but it's still quite silly. Wouldn't the common sense thing be just to send them a bill?

I mean it's not like he set fire to the dressing room or something....

He's probably going to retire soon, and realised there's still one or two code of conduct violations he doesn't have on his resume. ;)

Look, there's a lot of hypocricy in cricket, and I've accused the Aussies of doing that in the past on several occasions with regards to things like sledging and paying lip service to 'spirit', but Ponting's one of the few guys who actually goes out on a limb on a lot of things and is willing to say that he will abide by the words of fielders on catches (I disagree with that, but the attitude is commendable). I think the guy at least tries, which is more than can be said for some.

Please, please, don't continue to make me defend Ponting?

Just too ghey for words.

Shane Warne said Michael Bevan was renowned for headbutting lockers and chucking helmets after dismissals & Gus Fraser relates a story that Nasser Hussain had to have his hand cut free from a locker after it'd got stuck when he punched it in a fit of pique.

Come on, really, ICC?

What the ****. Shame he didn't break the TV, wonder what charges he would have faced, maybe he was pretending it was a Tomahawk practicing his 360's? (Sorry for the use of COD).
