Terrific innings Tom, now don’t make us wait another 5 years for one of those please.

NZ need to move to ODI mode (then T20 mode for 1/2 hr after tea). 123 overs to go (or 130 if an extra 1/2 hr on day 5?), assume SL bat defensively at 2.5 RPO, means the highest realistic chase NZ can make to win is around 200 / 40-45 overs (after SL make 220 / 85-90 overs). So anything less than 4 RPO now reduces NZ winning chances.

Ignoring the chance of further stoppages for rain.

Thought there was almost too much expectation for a CDG biff innings here, but he's done exactly what is required. In times gone by a cherry-on-top batsman like him would have been totally useless for NZ, but with a reasonable top order now these innings are gold.

keep going Colin. If we can bat until drinks tomorrow and he’s not out, that will give us 80 overs to bowl them out.
Kane will want 90 overs, gives Southee + Boult a last chance with 2nd new ball. He may be prepared to be defensive mid innings to prevent SL lead from getting too far ahead (similar to Eng at Eden Park, where de Grandhomme was preferred over Astle).

CdG is turning into a bit of a specialist at playing these kinds of innings. Will be amazing if NZ could win this after all the stoppages.

his best knock is still that 70 odd against england where he batted time for the good of the team. his facial expressions leaving balls outside off were hilarious.

Yup as I recall Doull didn't want CdG in the world cup squad, let alone the starting XI recently.

This situation was tailor made for him, glad he's lived up to it.

yeah i don't know how more nzers can't see the talent. the **** can time the ball on anything and finds gaps at will, just keep him away from a legspinner. if cdg played every ball along the ground he scores a century, it's that simple. he's only limited by being the worlds stupidest batsman and not knowing what to do with leggies.

he's also the clear best 5th bowler in the world now that stokes has lost his radar. you can give him the new ball and he'll take wickets, and with the old he'll provide control.

if he was 23 from hamilton and not 33 from auckland the simon doull/grant bradburn hyyyyype train would be in full swing.

lol calm down Phelgm. Nobody would be hyping up a 23 year old all rounder who bowls at 125k
