I think it was a bit more than one innings/day Sri Lanka won in the first test, both NZ's batting innings were sub-par, and Sri Lanka chased a potentially tricky target down with ease.

NZ not helped by the lack of a warm-up game, but Sri Lanka dominated that test, imo.

Going into the final innings of the match NZ were firm favourites.

In hindsight with the way the pitch played SL were in a much better position than first thought but it appeared at the worst evenly matched until the 4th evening and in reality NZ appeared on top

Problem is that keeping in mind the pattern of the weather so far, we’re probably looking at 100 overs max left.

NZ would need to score at 4 an over for 50 overs, then bowl SL out in 50 overs for 150 for a result here.

Agreed. A few chances not taken in innings 4 definitely cost us, but just being a bit better with the bat in our would have put a lot more pressure on Sri Lanka. Plus letting them off the hook a bit after their first innings collapse.

As for the second test, that goober Boult put down hurt a lot.

I feel like we’ve done pretty well in this series considering. And with a warm up/a 3 test series, we could well have been looking at a very different result.

I wouldn’t completely right off the chance of a result just yet. There’s really vicious turn on offer out of the footmarks. If we get lucky and have no further weather interruptions this could yet have an interesting day 5.

Dimuth being injured is big too, he's a 2nd innings specialist and has played some important knocks on dry decks against good attacks to help/attempt to save matches but will be hampered and may not be able to open the innings

Would love a full 140 overs more from here, or even 110, but feel we're going to be disappointed by the weather.

They should get the full quota in tomorrow, and with spinners likely to operate throughout today a solid 130 with good weather (light may be an issue tonight) is possible

Very nice little innings from Watling - a little edgy early but I love how he kept coming down the wicket to the spinner to work him around. Think he'd have been out a long time ago if he'd sat back in his crease the whole innings.
