Chennai desperately need Ntini and Morkel in their bowling line up to combine with Gony and Murali.

I really am surprised that Deccans have kept Dilhara out of their bowling side despite poor record so far of 3 straight losses.

This comp is still in early days yet...each team plays the other home and away - Thats 14 games each....Any team even Deccans can redeem themselves if they pick up from now...and even Kolkata /Channai/ Delhi unbeaten so far can fall out any time...if they lose a few in a row... I am guessing that any Team that wins 9 out of 14 is assured of Semi finals but it may well be just 8 wins even...

So a long long way to go yet...

I'm sorry, but you can't heap the blame on Laxman. You can't blame those sorts of bowling figures on anybody but the bowler.
Ofcourse, but the captain has to know that Symonds is throwing pies to batsmen. Even someone like Kaif who is not only out of form but barely known for hitting sixes, hit him for 3 sixes.

This is 3rd match in a row where Symonds' bowling has been appalling.

Haha, sorry, no.
Why not ? I mean everyone but Laxman knows that Symonds' bowling is crap.

Not a Symonds fan but he cant say, 'No skipper, I am not good at this, please look for someone else to bowl the overs'. Completely Laxman's fault for giving him the ball esp the last over.

laxman had 3 options for the last over...

prior to last over.

a symonds............2-0-28-0 eco 14.00
pp ojha.................3-0-23-0 eco 11.50
d kalyankrishna.....3-0-30-1 eco 10.00

what was he ment to do? throw it to a world class international player seems like the right call. if had given it to one of the young indians and the same result occured he would have copped it big time.

one man let them down A Symonds..

Mumbai vs Mohali, a battle to stay afloat and not join Hy'bad at the bottom

Mumbai: (probable) 1 Sachin Tendulkar (capt), 2 Sanath Jayasuriya, 3 Luke Ronchi (wk), 4 Robin Uthappa, 5 Abhishek Nayar, 6 Dwayne Bravo, 7 Shaun Pollock, 8 Harbhajan Singh, 9 Musavir Khote, 10 Ashish Nehra, 11 Dhaval Kulkarni.

Punjab: (probable) 1 Karan Goel, 2 James Hopes, 3 Kumar Sangakkara, 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Yuvraj Singh (capt), 6 Irfan Pathan, 7 Sunny Sohal, 8 Brett Lee, 9 Piyush Chawla, 10 Vikram Singh, 11 Sreesanth.
for Mumbai, Tendulkar is expected to play so that should boost the side

it's hard to restrict a side, so the better option to look for wkts most of the time, esp with the batting side's game plan being that everyone hits and a couple of them clicks to post a big total

i guess, Mumbai will pick up points tomm

Not saying Laxman made the smart move. That doesn't absolve Symonds of his responsibility. You can't say its 10% bowlers fault - he's the one who threw down pies, not Laxman. Laxman is at fault for bad captaincy obviously, but its still your job as a bowler (and he is there as a bowler and a batsman) to not be total crap.

Again, not absolving Laxman at all - that was a dumbass thing to do.

Symonds batted magnificently last night, pity his bowling mucked it up but it was to be expected. Happy Jaipur is doing well, definitely proving many wrong who thought they'd be minnows, myself included, and Smith has really bolstered their top order.

Lol at how Warne gets so much credit for everything he does as captain though. Love the guy to bits and he does really well in the role especially when rallying the troops, but jeez, settle down commentators.

Also, can't really disagree with the VVS is one of the world's worst Twenty20 players bit someone quoted earlier, it's just not his game.

I think Symonds poor bowling performance really shows how much you need specialist bowlers in this format. The sides that have struggled have been the ones that rely on average domestic bowlers or international batting all rounders/part timers. Personally I can't see Styris performing much better with the bowl. Reckon they might have give Nuwan Zoysa a game when Symonds leaves. He opens the batting regular these days in Domestic One Dayers and Twenty20 matches. So he could also add as option with the bat. Maybe not as opener but a pinch hitter around 6-8.

Personally I don't think Laxman captaincy was that bad during the match. If he didn't bowl out Afridi, Vaas and RP Singh early then I reckon the match would have been over before the last over. Even if he gave Symonds/Ojha/Kalyankrishna/Bangar a bowl before Vaas and Singh. It would have left them too much to do and they probably would have lost anyway.

It also interesting to see teams like Chennai, Delhi and Rajasthan doing well. All these teams have a fairly good balance between Indian players and overseas players. You really do need a good core group of local players to play well in this competition. The teams with fillers everywhere are the ones that struggle. Reckon a few teams might play more attention when they buy in local players. A lot of guys have been picked basically on talent rather then performances at FC level. Might see a few more experienced players running around next season.

Actually I should've meant Nuwan Zoysa for the Deccans but then again you could say the same for Dilhara and the Mumbai Team.

How gun would some of these sides be if they could play 6 overseas players. It would solve a lot of issues many sides have and still give the top Indian players gametime.

Bangalore RC: S Chanderpaul, R Dravid, C White, J Kallis, V Kohli, M Boucher (wk), P Kumar, A Kumble, N Bracken, D Steyn
Chennai SK: M Hayden, P Patel, M Hussey, S Rania, M Dhoni (wk), J Oram, A Morkel, J Sharma, P Gony, M Ntini, M Muraliatharan
Deccan Charges: H Gibbs, A Gilchrist (wk), S Afridi, A Symonds, R Sharma, V Laxman, A Nayar, N Zoysa, C Vaas, RP Singh, P Ojha
Delhi DD: V Shewag, G Gambhir, S Dhawan, AB De Villers (wk), S Malik, M Tiwary, D Vettori, F Maharoof, V Mamesh, M Asif, G McGrath
Punjab KXI: J Hopes, K Goel, K Sangakkara (wk), Y Singh, R Sarwan, M Jayawardene, I Pathan, K Mills, P Chawla, B Lee, S Sreenath
Kolkata KR: C Gayle, B McCullum, R Ponting, S Ganguly, D Hussey, M Hafeez, P Saha (wk), A Agarkar, M Kartik, U Gul, I Sharma
Mumbai Indians: S Tendulkar, S Jayasuriya, L Bosman, R Uthappa, D Bravo, A Nayar, P Shah (wk), S Pollock, H Singh L Malinga, D Fernando
Rajasthan Royals: G Smith, K Akmal (wk), Y Pathan, S Watson, M Kaif, D Mascarenhas, R Jadeja, M Morkel, S Warne, P Singh, M Patel

Would be awsome if they changed to rules for the number of overseas players next season.

Symonds isn't a world class Bowler. Laxman should have bowled anyone, even himself. Even Mickey mouse would have bowled better.

Even in Kolkata Symonds was pathetic his figures dont tell the story, his two overs cost the chargers 24 runs and basically turned the momentum in Kolkata's way. Against Delhi, he was hammered again for 35 in 2 overs. And again he was already expensive in his first two overs.

Symonds has been bowling pies not because he wants to but because that is the best he can, no matter how hard he tries. He doesn't have a choice, Laxman does.

You cant fault someone for not being to bowl like Shane Warne or Glen Mcgrath.

isn't Laxman in the same leagues as Dravid and Kallis?
NO. This whole Local player being the icon player has made the teams weaker. Laxman cant captain, cant play, hence useless.

Do you really think, Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman should be anywhere those teams ? These players aren't considered for the ODI team of their country, and they are made the Icon players and captains, it is just ridiculous and severely undermines the quality of those teams and the tournament itself.
