What do you make of Rohit Sharma opening, as of now? He's got a very good average (45) and impressive conversion rate (4 centuries and 8 fifties in 32 innings), but his strike rate is poor. At 78, he's a weak link in a high-scoring game. He's not even technically equipped to open an innings, as encounters against top bowling sides on difficult wickets suggest. His figures have also got a big boost on account of the flat track festival featuring the Aussies late last year, and are not so consisteny.

Top ODI openers are either technically very good or at least can smash plenty within the first 15 overs at a serious strike rate. Right now, he has neither, and needs to pick up one aspect. Can't imagine him transforming into a technical genius like Gary Kirsten, so at least he can be a Gilchrist-style free-flowing attacker.

I've got to say... 35 years experience in Cricket watching and playing to a reasonably high level, I've never seen anyone time the ball as well as Kohli.

Dhoni has to bat at #4 for India. Have said it million times. It's no use getting him in in a crisis situation everytime.

And Rohit kinda sucks as an opener despite the runs he made in the Aus series. Starts super slow in every single match!

There are going to be occasions where playing out the bowlers when they are bowling well is a good idea, espeically low scorers where you don't have to try and do anything fancy, but Rohit definitely has to reassess his approach in run chases, can't afford this super slow starts, and half the time he gets out after playing out too many deliveries.

Sharma is playing the role he needs to play, he's got to go hard and let Kohli just play naturally and get himself in.
