Interesting take on England's spinners in County cricket from the very successful Jeetan Patel (certainly in CC cricket anyway!) -

English spinners don't practice enough - Jeetan Patel | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

A lack of practice ?? Surely there's no excuse for this! Yes quick bowlers are generally monitored closely during the hectic domestic campaign and encouraged not to bowl too much (which is also a debate for another day) but not working hard enough to develop and ultimately master your trade as a spinner is disappointing to hear.
Well, do you want them to practice, or do you want them to play 16 county matches?

Yes I would prefer them to play less enabling for more time on the training ground and periods of rest.

However, I'd imagine Jeetan Patel still finds the time to train hard enough as well as play 16 games a season. Don't think training harder necessarily means a lot more physical work.

Even eartlier than that :toot:

Hadn't considered that other teams losing out on batting points would hasten the process. But I suppose, when it's come to this years' championship, there hasn't really been a need to consider other teams

Been an amazing effort given the amount of players who were missing for large periods of the season. Should be strong favourites again next year with Willey joining.

Going to assume the answer is a resounding no, but lads any chance Sky will bother showing any county cricket before the season ends? Surrey v Lancashire next week wouldn't be the worst idea to show, plenty of interest in that and no cricket all next week.

Somerset aren't clear cut division 1 quality anymore, but at least they've done the business against those in a similar or worse position.

Dan Lawrence with 80 odd opening the batting for The *** , very odd he hasn't played more this year.

Curious bowling result in the Derbys first innings too. Really green attack that Essex have fielded in this game, but it did the job.

What's the equation for Hampshire to get relegated?

Great win for Essex by the looks of things - though it was the senior team members rather than the kids that took the wickets in the 2nd dig.
