Personally I consider it an aberration that he's not yet played a test and has had so few international opportunities.

The only thing that irks me more is how Cricinfo refers to him as Right Arm Medium yet somehow calls Zaheer Khan Fast Medium

Ton up for the young lad. Well played!

Doesn't say much for the bowling if nos 9 & 10 can put on over 100 runs.
Woakes came in at eight actually & could bat higher - he's also one of their main bowlers. He has 6 tons in 1st class cricket now, probably more than many specialist batsmen manage by his age. If Flower has any balls, he could bring Finn & Woakes into the test team.

meh it's hardly like england have been losing much in the last few years(with the exception of the last 6 months). Could hardly drop Broad or Bresnan to play Woakes in test cricket upto now - maybe in the future yes if england's form continues to slump

Finn would replace Bresnan, with Woakes effectively coming in for Bopara.

Personally I don't think Flowers lacks the courage, but perhaps he is a little too loyal to current incumbents and gives them a few too many games when to us they seem to be struggling for form.

But I agree on bringing Finn and Woakes into the team.

I can work out how to get woakes into an england team, i just resent the notion that Woakes should have played more cricket for england by now. Bresnan won 13 straight in test cricket from debut. Woakes has very impressive first class figures but that means nothing at international level and england have had an excellent attack in this time. Woakes has also been very unfortunate in the timing of his injuries in the last couple of years. He's 23 not 30; he's gonna get plenty of opportunities in the future.

Yeah, it's real knee-jerk stuff, a couple of weeks ago we had 6 World-class quicks, now we apparently need to throw in Woakes. don't get me wrong I like the kid, but he's not in the top ten seam bowlers in the country, as of yet, IMHO.

Boo Cooke, BTW.

I'm not saying we need to play him I just think he's been hard done by when people like Meaker and Dernbach have managed tog et selected.

Exaggeration IMO.

Well I'm changing my mind on Meaker, Dirtbag is rubbish though, but I think we're talking Tests and neither of those two has played those. Woakes also has had a few injuries, which has hampered him being called up to squads a few times, I think.

my opinion, IMO
Name 'em then.

Anderson, Broad, Bresnan, Finn, Tremlet and Onions have all had Test success, so they're givens as such. You've still gotta name another four and I don't reckon you genuinely can.Dirtbag has been in the Test squad at least once and there's no way he's better than Woakes IMO.

Where Woakes stands as a specialist bowler is debatable, though his domestic record is already bloody good. What cannot be argued is his ability with the bat - he's easily the best option available to Flower.

In pure bowling terms you could make cases for Richardson, Kirby, Masters, Brooks, Chappell, Shahzad, Shrek & maybe Davies at least.

Chapple, Davies, Murtagh, Harris. Sidebottom is another, but Woakes is probably better now.
