I think he played a bit past his peak, hence the lower average, but during his peak he was a fantastic ODI bat.

Fair enough - my thinking was Atapattu a bigger name/with similar record in middle order and not needing Arnold's bowling but I guess Arnold is more proven as a middle order option

I remember at one point looking at cracking cover drives Arnold played and thinking he is another one in Jayasuriya-De Silva class. He did nothing of note since then lol.
