Midweek side starting to take shape.

Centre and back row are the Test auditions. Think everyone else is decided.

Wee fella's had a bit of a nightmare tour. Complete loss of form and a freakish injury.

Interesting there's no injury replacement en route. Leaves Halfpenny as the only specialist fullback in the squad, but I suppose there's another four or five who've played there at some time or other.

My preference would be to get Russell or Ford over there.

The closest replacement available would probably be Zebo. He'd end up being the 4th player on tour who plays fullback for his club but not for country (Watson, Williams, Payne), so I can see why they'd not bother.

The question is, can they be deployed tactically?

Midweek side doing well to contain a backline with Fekiota, Naholo et al. 10-15 to the good aws

Giggity. Plucky effort and surprisingly, it was our fringe guys who stood up - Walden, Hammington, Hemopo and our underrated props.

Saw the last 15 minutes in my tea break. Enough to see Farrell miss a relative gimme, yer Highlanders shred our scrum on our own ball and Daly just come up short with a somewhat longer punt.

Farrell missing is arguably the most concerning prob; he jibbed a similarly simple pen (for a kicker of his class anyway) versus Canterbury too. Hogg being crocked means Halfpenny's kicking could be accomodated into the test XV though, but.

I remember Wilkinson having a lot of trouble with his goal-kicking at Forsyth Barr in the 2011 World Cup. Might just be a pure coincidence, but it made me wonder if there's anything to it.

Is the stadium indoors?

Replacements: H Elliot, C Eves, M Renata, L Price, K Pryor, B Hall, I West, R Thompson.

Lions: L Halfpenny (Wales); A Watson (England), J Davies (Wales), B Te'o (England), G North (Wales); J ***ton, C Murray (both Ireland); M Vunipola, J George (both England), T Furlong (Ireland), M Itoje, G Kruis (both England), P O'Mahony (capt, Ireland), S O'Brien (Ireland), T Faletau (Wales).

---

***ton selected at 10 over Farrell the big talking point. BBC are reporting Owenaro has a quadriceps strain, but he was initially named on the bench in any event.

Definitely has the look of the test XV about it. Would imagine at least a dozen of the starters will line up v the ABs next Sat. Only real changes I can see are Farrell at ten, maybe AWJ at lock and Warburton over SoB.

That is a strong Maori team... will be a good game.
