Ask what he thinks about Waqar Younis, as a bowler. Did he spot any weakness in Waqar's bowling when Waqar was at his best?

ikki... a common friend is planning an evening of beer, non-stop cricket conversation and dinner at his place for three people of which two are going to be myself and dennis lillee. i hope my work doesn't come in the way in the last minute. i don't want to miss out. will let you guys know how he reacts to how CW rates him these days. of late I feel marshall > mcgrath = ambrose > hadlee > imran > lilee = garner seems to be the trend in this forum. I would rather have the first six as equals and garner below them.
Mate, get fired but go to that dinner :p.

If you could ask one question on my behalf: what he thinks of Warne being the greatest...or if indeed any spinners can be considered as great as fast bowlers.

Also, something which intrigues me is how Malcolm Marshall doesn't seem to be rated so unanimously as Lillee himself was - i.e. ESPN Legends of Cricket list and countless testimonies. I tend to get the feeling that CW rate Marshall much higher than they do. Can he give an insight into why that may be the perception?

Don't forget the autograph
I got his already, from a pub encounter a few years ago. obviously, he wont remember it. so i can get one more this time, if i want.

this planned dinner will be in a high society household. so i will have to pretend as though i am not in awe of him and treat him normally (though my friend knows that i am a cricket tragic) and not do fan-talk blatantly, for a while at least. after my third beer, though, i plan to switch to a leg stump guard and throw caution to wind. will probably write down ur questions so that they don't get drowned in alcohol ;)

Yeah, because nothing spells casual more than whipping out a notepad with questions scribbled in it as you retire for the after dinner tipple :p

The team will be selected from the 88 players who made it to the all-time teams for their countries.

Aravinda de Silva was not picked for Sri Lanka or what???

I think the guys who will make it

Jack Hobbs
Sunil Gavaskar
Donald Bradman
Viv Richards
Sachin Tendulkar
Gary Sobers
Adam Gilchrist
Imran Khan
Malcolm Marshall
Dennis Lillee
Shane Warne

This would be the final team that cricinfo. There might be some change in the middle order with regards to Sachin being in or not. I doubt that they will not put him in. Otherwise they will have to bear the wrath of the Indian fans.

Ian Chappell picked:

For my all-time thrill XI I've selected players on talent, their ability to entertain, and a desire to dictate to the opposition.

1. Virender Sehwag
The most destructive batsman in world cricket. Admirably simple approach to batting.

2. Roy Fredericks
A century off 71 balls against Lillee and Thomson at the WACA. West Indies reached 200 in the 20th (eight-ball) over.

3. Viv Richards
The fastest Test century, in balls (56). An intimidating presence. When an umpire once told a fast bowler three bouncers in a row was enough, Viv said, "Don't stop him."

4. Brian Lara
Features in two of the top four entries for most runs off an over in Tests. Exceptional against spinners.

5. Doug Walters
Three times he scored a century in a session in Test cricket. Also kept the dressing room as loose as a size-eight cap.

6. Sir Garfield Sobers (capt)
The greatest cricketer of all time. As captain he claimed the final two wickets - caught at second slip and then caught at leg-slip - in the last over of a one-day match when the opposition needed six to win.

7. Adam Gilchrist (wk)
One of the cleanest strikers I've seen. Hit the second-fastest Test century (57 balls).

8. Shane Warne
Champion bowler who made every ball an event worth watching. Would have loved bowling under Sobers' captaincy.

9. Dennis Lillee
Great fast bowler who thought only of taking wickets, never of saving runs. Also bowled a "soap on a rope" in a festival match to an astonished batsman.

10. Wes Hall
Extremely fast bowler with a wonderfully, rhythmic, long run to the wicket. Great entertainer either with bat or ball and perfect man to respond to the toast at the official function.

11. Bill O'Reilly
Bradman said he was the best bowler he ever saw. Aggressive legspinner, who once responded when asked if he'd ever performed a Mankad: "I never found a batsman that keen to get to the other end."

Very interesting choices there. Both Tendulkar and Bradman didn't make it, still its an exceptional team.
