English Domestic Season 2024

Jack Morley joins Derbyshire on loan, all season, all formats barring an injury crisis at Lancs.

Not going to learn or benefit much from Nathan Lyon's experience then. Although tbf he's not going to benefit much in the seconds either, and whilst he was previously arguably ahead of Hartley in the longer format, maybe Lancs now think otherwise after the India Test series.

Contracted to Lancashire to end of 2026.

Worcestreshire struggle to 66/11 in their pre-season friendly against Hants but recover to 116ao. Hampshire 141/4 in reply!

Lancashire's game tomorrow against Loughborough UCCE already abandoned

Don’t really like intra-season loans but can see the sense of the likes of this for all parties.

Root and Brook both going to play 5 CC games.

whilst CA restrict Nathan Lyon to 7 games when Lancs thought he was signed on for the season. Lancs website reporting:

The Australian spinner was due to be available for the full 2024 season with Lancashire Cricket, however he will now be available for seven of the first nine rounds of Vitality County Championship matches only.

Meaning: No white ball and only half the championship games.

CA are absolute numbskulls. It's like they're trying to ensure our players are unpractised and out of form going into the India series. Lyon gets better the more he bowls.

Unsustainable while Surrey’s revenue is 10 times that of the smallest counties with gap only likely to grow

slight tangent, but if 16 of the "Tier One" counties have tendered for a Profefssional Women's fanchise, I wonder who the ECB will award the eight contracts to. Is the process a charade and it will simply be the 8 counties who currently lead the women's game and so substantially leaving the non TMG counties behind? Don't Kent have a rich background in women's cricket?Screenshot 2024-03-29 at 09.59.56.pngScreenshot 2024-03-29 at 09.59.15.png

The Women's game is potentially still leading the men's game, first to abandoned the counties structure, first to regional franchises, first to 8 professional Tier One Centres in the pyramid.
Interesting to note where the Hundred is in the pyramid. Still relying on others to produce all the players.

Not that I favour this general trend, but it would be odd, and indeed somewhat illogical, if the 8 teams were not aligned with the hundred hosts.

which mocks the tender process, and would have to be water tight in their decision making process should it ever become public, especially if, say, Kent's bid promised to inject more finance into the women's game. There may be a certain logic behind the 8 tier one counties in that pyramid being the other 8 bidding counties rather than those leading the Hundred.

We opened with Billy Root today...the lack of quality openers is going to hurt us this season, you can sense it already.

CC starts Thursday but it looks wet and windy everywhere for at least the first 2 days.
Why does it have to start so early? Becos of the effing 100. I think it started about 14th april
back in 2018. And in the far off days of 1978, it didnt start til May, and they had fit in 20+
games then.

The Hundred and the Blast. You could probably sneak these one day games in early doors then allow the CC to have the warmer weather.

It has started around this time for years, can't blame the hundred for this one.
It's only the third time, in the last ten years, that a full round has been this early.
2024 5th April 9 matches
2023 6th April 9 matches
2022 7th April 8 matches
2021 8th April 9 matches
2020 12th April 6 matches but postponed
2019 5th April 6 matches due to hosting the ICC World Cup (didn't they claim exceptional circs)
2018 13th April 6 matches
2017 7th April 6 matches (due to ICC Champions Trophy)
2016 10th April 6 matches
2015 12th April 6 matches

Think it's fair to say it is now normal rather than due to trying to fit in the World Cup or CT.
