Dhoni is a model of sportsmanship. Haters can suck it

I said this just after it happened, Indians hate Dhoni now.
Haha I love how leading India to the World T20, the World Cup and World number one doesn't grant him any kind of immunity. Haters gonna hate.

WAG though, seriously.

Indians should be more annoyed with their preparation than a captain who has ensured that cricketing relations between the two countries remain positive despite the DRS debacle

The Tiger King
AAAgghhh........one of the reasons I hate Bhajji. Just listen to him sledging while he is standing there waiting for the third umpire.

After watching those two videos I also feel sorry for Steve Bucknor. Steve was a good umpire. Poor guy got kicked out of the ICC panel.

A fantastic gesture made (and hopefully England will skittle India for 100 or so in the second innings so as not to make it relevant to the final result)

But seriously, yes he's done something very good there and deserves praise, just like his hotel comments in the Windies deserved condemnation.
Bell was foolish to be wandering down the pitch without the ball being dead but still he was hardly doing it with the intention of taking an extra run and that's the important thing here.

It was in poor form for the Indian fielders to appeal for that run-out and if had it not been for the tea-break the decision won't have been reversed, from what I read people like Strauss and Flower went into the Indian dressing room during tea and tried to convince Dhoni into changing his decision, implication and likelyhood of this turning into a controversy would have no doubt made the India think-tank reverse their decision but AFAIC the appeal shouldn't have been made in the first place.

Not Terrible
Not really comparable to the Collingwood run out IMO, Bell was out because of his own error rather than an on-field collision.

Good stuff from Dhoni and the Indians though, should hopefully relieve some of the tension between the two sides fanbases.

Yeah but Dhoni won't lose the series because he took back this decision. For all practical purposes Dhoni might have been thinking "look here guys we are already quite screwed up in this match so why not go down with a bit of goodwill and take this decision back".

I am speculating but it is a possibility.
That sounds pretty ridiculous tbh... They were still in the match at that moment... It was the Prior and Bresnan's partnership which took the match away from India.

I think it was the right decision by Dhoni and the team :).... Dhoni is such a likeable person just needs to learn to bat in test matches..

What he did took guts and he should be praised etc... but sometimes the popular thing and the right thing is not the same.

And i have my doubts if the Indian team is in a similar situation many other captains would reciprocate. And the heavy majority of so many ex captains saying that they would have not overturned does not do anything to dispel this.
It doesn't matter whether other captains would make same decision as Dhoni... That shouldn't be a consideration when making a decision like this. The decision should be made based on what you think is within the spirit of the game not whether others would act the same way you have...
Dhoni and the team made the right decision and i'm very happy with them.... except for the part about **** display after tea break.

Don't take this the wrong way (because you're not a **** for thinking the above) but I reckon that sort of view is shaped by not having played much team sport. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I doubt high school stuff counts, but the fact is almost every captain interviewed said they would have appealed for it, so I don't think you can just dismiss my argument with that.

Whatever it takes!!!
people who have seen me post around that time should recall it but I was dead set against the way Dhoni kept claiming one bounce catches.

But, having said that, his conduct since 2007 when he was made the LO captain, has been nothing short of exemplrary.. The odd mistake notwithstanding, he has very much been the sort of a captain any team would be proud of, even sportsmanship wise.. I mean, when was the last time you saw him claim that sort of a catch. He has changed, and for the better, since those 2006 days...

It's almost as if stuff happens so fast out there that sometimes it's hard to tell exactly what happened.

If only there was a computerised system of some sort which could remove at least some of the doubt.

spreadsheets to decide if balls carried or not.. sounds like a perfect solution to me.. :p

He was anything but a good umpire.. He was India's Darrell Hair, you are just speaking wiithout knowing what you are on about.

why shouldn't it be? Bell was just stupid... I am not saying they should have appealed but in today's sports, that is how things work.. Most teams would have and that's that.

Na he was a good umpire earlier in his career but yeah towards the end he had become bit rubbish..... was making a lot more howlers.

So only what's in the rules counts? Fair enough but it doesn't exactly jibe with your contentions that sledging should be banned outright when there's no mention of it at all in the laws.

Mind you, I guess it isn't at all inconsistent; that sledging isn't specifically banned and the incident yesterday mean you rely on the players to be sportsmanlike for the good of the game, independent of the legislation. Admit it, you just hate sportsmanship. :p

Well then you are just opening a can of worms and taking the game to a point where you are saying that anything goes as long it helps your team win a game...!!!

I think these are sort of instances where the on-field umpires need to stamp their authority and over-rule such appeals which might not be in the spirit of the game.
