Alright, had enough. This was a decent thread and while I understand people have a gripe with how the tie for #6 was sorted, it's become rubbish in the last 24 hours.

HB - if you're going to get this upset, you shouldn't participate in the thread any further. You make any more abusive comments and there will be consequences.

Everyone has three choices at this stage:
1) you can stop participating in the thread anytime if you don't like how it's being run.
2) you can keep this up, and I'll lock the thread and you can all go back to whinging without any hint of irony that there is not enough interesting discussion in Cricket Chat because people get sidetracked in abtruse arguments on pedantic points.
3) we can carry on, accept that there are some flaws in the ranking process, and maybe enjoy some cricket related discussion.

Hi Matt, I didn't mean to get offensive.. I think from the history of the posts, it is pretty obvious who started being offensive. Secondly, I just started this out as a suggestion, and I think with more people backing the suggestion than being against it, it was a reasonable one. Thirdly, weldone is the one who mentioned something about "this is my thread" and that is where all the trouble began.

For my part, I don't mind continuing here, I juz hate the fact that guys like PEWS are labelling me as something I am not. And honestly, as a mod, he should know better. I have been here for long enough to understand the silly things people do to get their way but there is a way to put things.. That is my PoV here.

As far as I remember, Adharcric used to cast his votes in the end. Nobody used to question that, while the fact of the matter is that casting your votes in the end will yield the same result as editing your votes in the last instance. Since there's so much debate behind this now, I shall revert to Adharcric's method. I shall be the last person to cast my votes in every round starting from round 8. In that way, I won't have to edit my votes. And the fanatic fans here will get a life and will be able to enjoy their beer in a peaceful mind.

If I were not fanatic about cricket, I won't be here... And at least I accept facts

No more digs in either direction, please.

Rank 7 Results Declared and Rank 8 Voting Begins

Points:
Lara (30)
etc etc etc...

Rank 1: Donald Bradman
Rank 2: Jack Hobbs
Rank 3: Garry Sobers
Rank 4: Viv Richards
Rank 5: Sachin Tendulkar
Rank 6: Wally Hammond
Rank 7: Brian Lara 8-)

I shall be maintaining two different counts: one showing how many of the already ranked players played in which decade, and the other for opener-middle order split.

Decade-wise split
1890 and before: 0
1891-1900: 0
1901-10: 1 (14%)
1911-20: 1 (14%)
1921-30: 3 (43%)
1931-40: 2 (29%)
1941-50: 2 (29%)
1951-60: 1 (14%)
1961-70: 1 (14%)
1971-80: 2 (29%)
1981-90: 3 (43%)
1991-2000: 3 (43%)
2001-10: 2 (29%)

Opener-Middle Order Split
Opener: 1 (14%)
Middle order: 6 (86%)

The voting process for rank 8 starts.

Too many middle order batsmen have been selected. 2:4 (33%:67%) or maximum 2:5 seems like a healthy opener:middle order ratio. But, right now it's 1:6 (14%:86%).

I reckon it's time for an opener now, what say guys?

So far my rankings and the overall CW rankings have been in very close agreement! 7 of my top 8 have made it to CW's top 7.

For next round: three G's

G Pollock - 3
G Chappell - 2
G Headley - 1

Leonard Hutton, Sunil Gavaskar, Herbert Sutcliffe, WG Grace, Barry Richards are a few names to consider if we are searching for ATG openers.
