I wouldn't say so, personally. Cricket was too much of a minority sport when he played it. But he might well be more dominant in his own field than any other sportsman.

You can compare, to a degree, across sports statistically. Bradman's batting average is certainly so far ahead of anyone else that's ever played the game in a way that say, Chamberlain's NBA ppg record isn't.
Wilt might not be the best example since he had the 50 ppg season once. His overall career averages dropped significantly when he started playing the defensive specialist type of role. MJ has the highest career average of 30.12 vs Wilt's 30.07. I think the only such domination basketball may have seen is Bill Russell's titles.

I thought Jordan was only 3rd in terms of ppg - or am I mixing up his ppg with his total number of points?

Well being white...

Ok serious now. Cricket wasn't a minor sport in his day. It was an obsession in Aus and Eng. The WI, though nascent, adopted it as their game and it was of course the most popular game in India even then. Only out rated by rugby in SA and NZ. Someone (I think Davis) mamaged to rate Bradman as a one in 200000 yrs player. I think I may have read that on CW. If there is a similar way to rate other sportsmen than you'll have your std of measure. Personally I like Phepls, Jahanghir, Lindrum and MacKay as candidates.

Don Bradman, also known as Sir Donald Bradman. The top batman in cricket of all time he played for Australia from 1928 until 1948. In that time he had 6997 hits and an unheard of batting average of 99.95.
He has been retired from the game for almost 64 years and still no cricketer has even come close to touching his amazing records.
Did he have a good vinyl collection?

I'm trying to work out how much we should look at the sports popularity and more so participation rates when trying to answer this question.

I mean Khan's squash record is terrific and there is this Dutch wheelchair tennis player who has an unbelievable record too but sorry to the squash and wheelchair tennis fans out there, but who did they actually beat? It also reduces Bradman a bit too as on a global scale Crickets participation was smaller compared to say Pele, Jordan or even a Bolt.

If we don't factor in my drivel, Kelly Slater would have to be up there too. 11 time world champion is exceptional.
