Appreciation Society for the Indian bowling attack apart from Zaheer

Does anyone have any theories on why we miraculously seem to get by even without Zaheer?

Mine is that Zaheer's the leader of the attack, and so expects the rest to bowl around him. This restricts the other quicks from fully expressing themselves, the unfortunate consequences of which are somewhat offset by Zaheer's performances. In the absence of Zaheer, the bowlers are free to do their thing and not worry about playing support cast to a senior bowler at the other end. The improved results they get from such an approach is again offset by the absence of a significant contribution by Zaheer.
Nah... we are **** without Zak... less than Bangers standard :gingerfurball:

speculation at its very worst, based on no technical knowledge whatsoever, inventing storylines in hindsight to explain events they can't otherwise understand. very much like the Indian tv media. sorry if that's a little harsh but I do despise that sort of nonsense.

their performance had nothing to do with zaheers absence, it' merely a combination of skill, very favourable conditions and adapting to those conditions. if zaheer had been fit they would have bowler just as well, probably with even better results thanks to the variety of a left armer.

Whatever it takes!!!
come on, I am sure you have heard those expressions before.. "leveraging our growth potential" "helping all stakeholders achieve benefits" and "displaying agility in a fluctuating market to maximize potential"..

Guessing you got a promotion recently... :p

Bowlers feel like they need to build pressure at their end, so that Zaheer can attack. Concentrate on bowling back of a length, trying to dry runs up. When he's out, Sreesanth (for example) can bowl that half yard fuller to draw the batsman into the drive, and no-one cares as much if he does get hit for four, because they need him to be more attacking.
:)

Thanks, that makes sense. Haven't been paying close enough attention though to verify any change in the Indian bowling tactics.

EDIT: @ the Singaporean.

Massive amounts of failure ensured this initially ended up in completely the wrong thread, but:

Fun fact: In this series, Broad, Bresnan and Anderson all have better strike rates than Ishant and Sreesanth's averages. By a long, long way in the case of the first two.

Amit Mishra is an awesome bowler. He is going to be a significant force in the future. I think we should take him to England and let him loose on the English and South Africans who historically have had significant issues dealing with wrist spinners.

Good to see Praveen Kumar stating his case for being Zaheer's new ball partner. Gotta support the medium pacer.
He is a pretty good support bowler, imo.Keeps it tight and bowls over after over and chips in with wickets.

What he needs is someone along with him who can be more attacking than him and help build pressure with him and rip apart a order quickly, hence helping him take wickets too. This is where lacking someone like Zaheer has cost big time.

Him and Ishant along with 2 spinners would be enough in India probably, but with the lack of a consistent alternative Zaheer has become absolutely crucial on away tours.
