as for Australia's team, clearly this hasn't really answered any questions. I think Inglis going straight past Wade and Carey has to be considered a very real possibility now. Wade can obviously jump in a lake, but I'm not sure if I would pick Inglis in front of Carey (and I'm not exactly on the Carey hype train) . Marsh has hopefully consolidated his spot ahead of the evil, no good Marcus Stoinis but I don't he sees game time at 3. If Smith isn't fit, I could see Marnus being picked in the squad.

I'm just throwing names down, could be forgetting someone, but something like

Warner
Finch
Smith/Marnus
Maxwell
Marsh
Inglis (+)
7. Agar
Starc
Hazlewood
Cummins
Zampa

Marsh > Marsh > Head > ....

I'll let you fill in the blanks.

Line and Length

International Coach
He was tried as the legit ODI no. 3 a few years back and did ok, think it started in a tri-series in Zimbabwe. Can't recall why it ended but I can only assume given it's Mitch Marsh that he got injured.

I'm sure MMarsh the gun limited-overs player wouldn't have "stopped being a thing" if not for his repeated injuries
I couldn't agree more. As a hard hitting, fast scoring middle order bat who adds depth to the bowling he is without peer among the current players.

International Captain
Last watching a couple highlights, thinking Oshane Thomas is possibly the worst fielder I've ever seen. Not easy to move around when you're that size though
He had a shocker all around unfortunately. We still need a fast bowler to take wickets with the new ball I think. Problem with Cottrell is that he takes wickets with the new ball but is a liability later on. Oshane just hasn't improved unfortunately. I think we need to try Nial Smith.

I remember when I thought Simmons might be a decent Test bat at #4.

I also remember when the WI selectors thought the same.

I wonder what might've happened if Lendl himself still believed it beyond his dropping.

Simmons is pretty much similar to Stoinis in that sense. Very frustrating to watch often, but when it comes off it might be match-winning. Don't think that justifies selection in the shorter format tho esp given the other options (and don't think is good enough to be selected for the longer format either)

Yeah. I would open with Gayle and have Hety at 3 personally but they seem obsessed with the left/right combo. Hopefully by the end of the Pakistan series they will stop messing around with our combinations and we will see who they feel is their best XI.

Russell forced himself to hit sixes. There's no doubt he's good enough, he'd hit two already. But as I said before, if you take 3 singles, you need two fours to get home. You don't need to be good enough to clear the ropes. Walsh can find the boundary as well, and the balls that Starc bowled were certainly ones where if you got bat on them or even pad, there were boundaries to be had. Walsh isn't Courtney Walsh.

But hey, none of us are right or wrong. It's like a declaration - it's not a good decision at the time it's made, it's made good or bad by the execution of it. Less arguable with a situation like Samson in the IPL, I guess, but still these decisions are made in the heat of the moment and how they turn out will decide in some people's minds whether they were right or not. Just as easily, as you say, Walsh could have been done like a dinner by Starc and we'd wonder why Russell let him near strike

But kept getting picked because mongrel.

Poor old Peter Nevill, wishing he'd been more of a **** and played a few more games.

Three keepers playing for australIa his game. Wade continues to be picked despite flopping in every format FF his domestic stats, as pointed out on the forum the other day. Time to dispense with him.
