Squad and dates have both been announced do fairly safe to make a thread. Marnus missing due to the logistics of making it from county to WI and will instead focus on county stuff with Glamorgan.

Green is also missing, opted out of the tour so he could stay home to work on bowling action and get a strong start to the pre-season with WA.

Unconfirmed speculation here but would say that guys like head and Abbott missing out is a result of them being in England like marnus, and not due to them being overlooked.

1.Warner
2.Finch/Wade
3.Smith/Phillipe/Wade
4.Maxwell
5.Carey+/Philippe/Wade
6.Stoinis/Moises
7.Agar/Cummins?
8.Jhye
9.Starc
10.Cummins/Sangha
11.Zampa

Fair to say this will be the batting line-up for the T20 stuff. Could see the selectors pulling something wacky like short at 7 +Agar and Zampa since WC is in the sub continent and Agar at 7 leaves the batting a bit short, but don't think it's that realistic. Don't think omissions hurt here too much aside from Abbo as a potential #7.

1.Finch (C)
2.Warner
3.Smith
4.Stoinis/moises
5.Carey+
6.Marsh
7.Maxwell
8.Cummins
9.Starc
10.Zampa/Agar
11.Haze

#4 spot is a bit hard to choose, marnus is gone and every feasible replacement (Green, Head, Handscomb) have opted out of the tour for various reasons. Rough for green inparticular, think this tour would have been a Chance to show what he can offer the LO side.

D'Arcy short has apparently just signed a contract for the blast when he's In CA's squad for the WI tour. Feels weird that marnus was excluded on the "logistical issue" front with the England to WI being a pain to sort out but short is doing the same thing when in reverse order and getting the greenlight, especially considering that marnus is a far more important LOI player then short.

Not sure about throwing Sangha in just now. Kid is the best looking leg spin prospect we've had for ages but let him mature a bit. Don't want him to go backwards like Pope.

Should be an interesting series, don't have much faith in the bowling though.

Think Sangha is just there for developmental purposes, don't see him getting a game unless someone gets injured.

Warner Finch Smith that's quite an underwhelming Top 3 for T20I I should say. Especially when guys like McDermott & Joshua Phillippe don't play over someone like Smith.
Australia needs to change their approach in T20 I think.
If WI play majority of their T20 specialists this could perhaps expose Australia a bit. Bowling is still top notch though.

You think Arun Finch is an underwhelming T20 player?

But seriously wish they scrap all this and play two tests.

Not sure the squad is big enough. Surely could have taken three more so every local BBL player got a gig

23 players for 8 days’ cricket. Ridiculous

Finch is currently better than those two as his T20 record is proof.. But Smith seriously? He is a 120-130 S/R player on a good day. Warner's form has dipped significantly. Compare this top 3 to England or India or even NZ. Australia falls short easily. Why settle for something less when you can be better? Warner & Finch will work but Smith... No way

T20 cricket has evolved a lot & there is no room for deadwood or slow starters in this era especially if you have to beat top teams. I mean having Smith in a Aussie T20 team is nothing short of tragedy.
Some are laughing at McDermott or Phillippe but both these guys have ability to bat at high S/R if they bat at Top 3. Unless Aus change tactics T20 WC will always be out of reach.. They are playing T20s as an extended version of ODIs sorry to say.

Smith is probably the most important player in that top three, given the middle order which will follow him.

he’ll end up player of the tourney at the wc, assuming it goes ahead at all.

Whatever it takes!!!

Maybe but will still suck in the WT20 in the meantime.

EDIT: Seriously though, AP has a point. Finch's best days seem to be behind him and same case with Warner. Funnily enough, Smith maybe the only one of the 3 at his prime or close enough to his prime amongst the 3. I would still let this be the top 3 for this WT20 simply because it is too late to change anything but if it does not work out, time to ring in some changes, I guess.

Smith being player of tourney that's really too far fetched tbh.. Even guys like Kohli or Williamson might not be able to pull it off... But that doesn't mean they won't play impactful knocks.
Smith would have been useful if both Finch & Warner were in their prime but not now. In fact these two would under some serious pressure. That middle order including Smith is Shaky af.

This the same Smith that made 2 consecutive 60 ball 100s last season? Yeah think he'll be fine
