When you look at the attack picked and overs bowled he clearly isn't being used as a specialist spinner would be. England have not gone into this match intending to use a spinner like they used Swann or Panesar. I don't speak for everyone but this is what I mean when I bemoan the lack of a specialist spinner. If you think it's possible to do that with him then fine but that isn't the case right now.
I don't really understand what you mean by this. We've gone in with 5 bowlers, not the 4 we often used with Swann and Monty, so no he won't bowl those type of overs. Yet he's bowled 30 overs so far, and I guess he'll bowl a lot more tomorrow. Will be much more than a fifth I'd have thought.

He's the main spinner in our attack, seems specialist to me.

Was away today so haven't really caught much. Disappointed Woaksey wicketless again, he needs to start producing. Seems like India are gifting it to us though?

Think Cook definitely captains better when he gets runs. Maybe it's just a reactionary thought because England obviously do better when he gets runs but it seems that way.
I mean, it's not exactly a shock that Cook's captaincy looks better when his team's two best batsmen actually score runs

Of course his captaincy in this test is more aggressive; he's 0-1 down in the series and pretty much needs a win.

it's a different scenario to th SL test so we don't know if he's any better in that regard.

Now Prior has gone Cook has to think for himself instead of doing what Prior tells him to.

Yeah, gotta feel for him. Raged at my friend who laughed at his figures the other day

The only encouraging thing is that Dhoni seems to have more faith in him than in Shami. Initially Shami was given the new ball, but Pankaj got the next two. It's gotta be said though that he really has no answers when ****s start attacking him and he goes for a few. But then again, none of the other bowlers do either.

Where's the next Test? I'd personally be considering something like:

1. Gambhir
2. Vijay
3. Pujara
4. Kohli
5. Rahane
6. Dhawan
7. Dhoni +
8. Jadeja
9. Bhuvi
10. Ishant/Pandey
11. Pankaj

I'd back Gambhir to make more runs opening than Dhawan, and Dhawan to make more than Rohit in the middle order. Other option is Dhoni back to 6 with Ashwin coming in, but that probably won't happen.

Ashwin in for Ishant/Pandey if it's at The Oval, which gives a seriously OP lower order.

Dhawan at 6 is weird. If we bat well enough for him to not face the second new ball then we arguably don't need him over Ashwin. If we do need the batting I'd back Rohit to do better in these conditions, despite his lazy footwork and lack of patience. He's also been an opener all his life, we don't need to start throwing him around the order as a stopgap solution because that rarely turns out well.
