I'd like to see Adam Gilchrist as Captain.

Bradman and Border too grumpy. Chappell too under-arm. And Miller, too Miller.
Is it possible to be TOO Miller?

Miller should be left alone as you should never try to cage a free spirit.

I've always imagined Miller to be like Botham - great on inspiration and 'leading from the front', but not much structure. Like Botham, team meetings would probably revolve around making sure that everyone gets their round of beer.

But of course I have no evidence at all for anything I've just said - it's just an impression I get from dealing with people who are fortunate to possess lots of intuitive talent.

Yeah I'm keen for Border as captain as well. Would be a bit worried about the fact that he might not actually hold his place in the team on form the whole time as he's the worst of the specialist middle order batsmen picked, but if we don't have to worry about the team changing on form, Border it is.

I think Bradman's probably the best strategic captain in the team, but he did have issues with O'Reilly and Miller at certain times on certain issues.

Chappell was prone to a bit of weird ****, like the underarm incident, when under pressure. He wasn't as good a leader as his brother was.

Border was ok, took a team from a pile of **** to a very strong outfit. However, I suspect that had as much to do with Bob Simpson as it did Border. Certainly grew in to the captaincy as he went.

Warne and Miller are two players commonly mentioned as "the best captains to never captain Australia" etc. Miller's NSW captaincy is spoken of VERY highly by Benaud.

All things considered, when people talk about the best Australian captains, it's usually

- Armstrong
- Bradman
- Benaud
- Ian Chappell
- Mark Taylor

Seeing Bradman's the only one in the team, it has to be him for me.

The people who are using the underarm incident against Chappell, as a captain, have got it all wrong.

As Aussies go I always rather liked Greg Chappell, he was after all a very good batsman to watch, and ****ish trick though it was I do think a bit too much is made of the underarm incident - it's one of those situations where I would love to know what Douglas Jardine would have made of it. I actually think he wouldn't have done the same, although I think he'd have seriously considered doing so

Bradman for captain... wouldnt feel right having someone ordering him around, even though technically i feel Border might be a better choice

While he makes unpopular decisions at times, I think he's actually the best captain among those available for selection. Greg Chappell gets my vote.

I think an important question is how would Bradman react to be captained by anyone else? Especially one he saw an being inferior to himself.

Bradman didn't have a problem be captained by Woodfull.

Also, Bradman appears to be a farely clinical individual. I don't think that he would let any negative emotions effect his, or his teams, performance.

Warne for captain. Tactically the best of the lot.

Although the idea of AB flipping **** at Bradman and threatening to send him on the next plane home is highly appealing.

Border. Demanded much of his players (as I'm sure Dean Jones and Craid McDermott would confirm) but, unlike Sir Donald, one suspects he asked only of his charges what he would do himself.

Bradman - gets my vote.

my defining reason is that there was a strong rumour supported by tim zoehrer actually showing up at a press conference with a black eye - that Border socked him one for recalling a batsman on a dodgy caught behind. Apparently recalling batsman is not the correct thing to do even if you grass the ball.

Strangely the nz captain Coney at the time also said he would not have recalled the batsman had his wicket keeper privately told him he had not held it cleanly.
