If Strauss was to retire tomorrow I think they'd move Trott up, play Bell at 3 and add another middle order bat.Who's lined up as the next opener?
Or will it be a case of moving Trott up?

I think he could go, he didn't seem to be enjoying the whole KP farce, and it can't be fun not buying a run, the only real problem is whom replaces him as opener, Cook will be captain. Yet there's no-one else, they've tried Compton as opener for the Lions, and Trott has played there, but not ideal. I would quite like a left-right combination. Too soon for Root?Nah I reckon he'll stay on but you never know.
Compton coming in as an opener would definitely be an interesting call. That he opened for the Lions does suggest that he's seen as a possible opening option.I think he could go, he didn't seem to be enjoying the whole KP farce, and it can't be fun not buying a run, the only real problem is whom replaces him as opener, Cook will be captain. Oh yeah, that goes without saying really we've achieved much under him, but his frm isn't form any more, it's decline.Compton coming in as an opener would definitely be an interesting call. That he opened for the Lions does suggest that he's seen as a possible opening option.
Re: Strauss - the only thing I'm confident in is that he won't be pushed. It wouldn't surprise me that much if he decided to step aside of his own accord but if he was pushed by Flower or the board at this stage then I'd be very surprised.
Quoting to be a hindsight dickSmith will be the victim this year.
No, he was just lucky to have a team full of awesome players, his captaincy is irrelevant. Smith joins an not-so-illustrious group of Steve Waugh, Rick Ponting and Clive Lloyd, all just very, very lucky people.Smith has been phenomenal as captain - first series victory for SA in England since '65, ending Australia's 16 year series undefeated streak at home, and now potentially claiming the number one mantle. All time great captain, that's for sure.
I've thought the same thing myself.Well, depending on if KP ever plays again, that's three English captains/ex-captains retired in three visits to England.![]()
Miss WW's postsThese days we don't get "crushed" by anybody!!..whether they are number one or not.
You're a ****. Had I feeling I'd posted something like that.Quoting to be a hindsight dick![]()
In all seriousness, I agree. Grateful as I am for what he's done for England, I genuinely think now would be the time for Strauss to go were Doosgate not muddying the waters.Nah, in all seriousness, I think its the wrong time for Strauss to go considering the KP **** that just happened. It complicates things a bit.
Another thing we can blame KP on![]()
Smith will be the victim this year.
Steyn and Philander will definitely be licking their lips.
Steyn at the luscious seam-bowling conditions.. Philander at the exquisite Lord's buffet.
