I would say the fairest way is that if a player is replaced, the nominated replacement comes in.

Makes sense. An injury will bring in a previously ineligible player, so you aren't punished for your player being injured and having to pick associates. Similarly, it'll avoid people using injury as an excuse to change tactics (unless the actual country's team does that anyway).

I'd say Tharanga is just as good - much more likely to get a big score, if not a start - and he's more likely to reach the latter stages of the tournament. Main problem with him is that he'll get dropped if Mahela opens. Not much in it for mine.

Guptill is a better player than Tharanga by a fair bit IMO.

Guppy's bit more consistent imo, though Tharanga converts his starts better. And is a better player of spin.
