It's quite exciting to think that in a couple of years time, we could have a top order of:

McCullum
Raval/Brodie/worst case scenario McIntosh
Williamson
Taylor
Ryder
Vettori

That looks a pretty classy top six if you ask me. Although I still reckon there's a lot of potential to be 5/150 a lot of the time
Just need to keep Jesse off the grog.

Williamson looks like all the hype was justified, seems a very composed young man.Hope he kicks on.NZ just need to find an opener and get the timing right of moving Williamson up to 3 and they will have a batting side to compete with anybody.

I just know Williamson will be moved to three too early. I reckon there's a decent chance it'll happen at the start of this home summer after Franklin scores a million runs in the opening rounds of the Plunket Shield. Franklin will slot in at six or seven and Williamson will be bumped up to three. Probably not the right call but it'll happen IMO.

I definitely think Franklin would add heaps more to the side than Watling but I don't know if it's worth throwing Williamson to the wolves in what will be his fourth Test. Maybe Franklin could just bat three himself.

Pity there isn't someone else we can put in at 6 so that Vettori can bat 7 just so that we bat deeper.

Need another prodigy:ph34r:
Meh, a number six would be an easier spot to fill than an opener or a number 3. Broom still hasn't had his shot in test cricket, and if all else fails, hopefully Corey Anderson will be coming through by that point (whether as an allrounder or as a specialist bat).

Nah, I can just smell several number three's about to score massive in the Plunket Shield. If it's not a Sinclair recall then Merchant or maybe even Parlane for his experience could get the gig.

You know who I reckon is possibly the most underrated batsman never to play for NZ? Andrew de Boorder. Hope he gets some consistent games for Auckland because I'm very interested to find out more about him. I've liked what I've heard of his big innings on the radio. Always seems to ton up when I'm listening.

He scores List A tons opening. Maybe he has plans to get elevated up Wellington's batting order? Can't see it in FC myself. he could move ahead of Parlane to four but he won't go ahead of Brodie, Bell, Merchant.

In List A he could move up though considering Bell and Brodie are **** at limited overs.

He's still quite young but definitely has talent. Was at school with him and Southee for a year (they were a few years older than me)

Bowlers are a far bigger concern really.
Yeah but that's way too depressing to talk about as there really are no answers. :p

Locking Franklin up in a cage for a month and feeding him only raw meet to tougher him up, then telling him he's not allowed to bat higher than eleven for any team until he averages 135km/hr+ with the ball is the best idea I can come up with.

awta. It's a massive long shot but if he rediscovers his old form then he's a shoo-in for number eight.

Oh Kane Williamson I think I'm in love. Such an awesome innings so far, his defense has been rock solid. Such a good player of spin considering his age and where he comes from.

Oh yeah I quite like Bates.
Solid. Doesn't look much but took a truckload of wickets on State Highway 1, which is nothing to snigger at.

EDIT: Well I think he looks great, but he's only mid 130s I think so not the strike bowler we need. But still a very respectable bowler and more importantly better than Martin.

Howsie IIRC thinks Bates is hilariously bad. I don't think I've ever seen him bowl. Maybe once on highlights or something.. I definitely don't remember it.

We would like him, but the rest of the world will think he looks average.

He's not what Howsie makes out, but he's not the answer to our problems either. Could average around 32 in tests.

Lol, from the plays of the day article:

http://www.cricinfo.com/india-v-new-zealand-2010/content/current/story/485814.html

Most crowd-pleasing act of the day

It was the moment Sachin Tendulkar came on to bowl. As ever, he tousled his hair after he gave his hat to the umpire, flicked the ball from one hand to the other, licked his finger, and set his field. As ever, the crowd (if you could call the sparse gathering that) roared and cheered. As ever, Tendulkar walked up like Shane Warne from that extremely short run-up. There was to be no minor miracle, though, as he ended up bowling lot of tripe and was taken out of the attack.

 Thought it was going to be an over-the-top piece but said it like it is.

Also glad the Williamson back foot punch through cover was mentioned. What a shot.

Haha Tendulkar's bowling was surprisingly bad. He's clearly completely given up bowling altogether. Hard to blame him I guess.
