All-time Test XI with a twist

NUFAN

Y no Afghanistan flag
1. Saeed Anwar
2. Gordon Greenidge
3. Eddie Barlow (*)
4. Martin Crowe
5. Kumar Ranjitsinhji
6. Gundappa Viswanath
7. Ian Botham
8. Kapil Dev
9. Godfrey Evans (+)
10. Jeff Thomson
11. Subhash Gupte

12th Man: Mohammad Azharuddin.

Slick slip cordon with Barlow and Botham, both of whom would be standing next to one of the best wicketkeepers all-time. Pretty happy with my list. Surprised no one chose Vishy or Evans before me.
I like this team. Did you grow up watching Cricket in the 70-80s or just like those players more?

1. WG Grace
2. Victor Trumper
3. Kumar Ranjitsinhji

5. Mark Waugh
6. Ian Botham
7. Kapil Dev
8. Rod Marsh +
9. Harold Larwood
10. Subhash Gupte
11. Jeff Thomson

Happy with that.
Thats probably one of the best balanced teams on the thread. Dont like the bird man much but other than that, fantastic team.

Unfortunately, I didn't. I chose these players off footage, research, and I also believe the standard of cricket was most likely highest around that time. Although there was a single dominant force, most teams had strong attacks or at least one class bowler. If a player does well against hostile bowling I think their skill is well proven.

The restrictions don't really impact on your NZ team, do they. :)

Lol, Bootsie was pretty solid. Using this criteria my all-time NZ test side would be minus Dempster, Donnelly, J F Reid, Hadlee, Cowie, B Taylor & Bond and would look something like

Turner
Wright
Sutcliffe/Jones
Crowe
Fleming (C)
J R Reid
McCullum (wk)
Cairns
Vettori
Nash
Collinge

magnificently long batting lineup that and means inclusion for one of NZ's more underrated test cricketers, Dion Nash !

Blakus

State Vice-Captain
Will have a go at an aussie one

1.Victor Trumper
2.Justin Langer
3.Charles Macartney
4.Clem Hill
5.Ian Chappell
6.Mark Waugh
7.Jack Gregory
8.Ian Healy
9.Richie Benaud
10.Jeff Thompson
11.Garth Mckenzie
12.George Giffen

Was actually really tough. did a little bit of study this time hence the 12th man. Just couldn't leave Giffen of the team list.

I think McCullum is averaging over 30. You may have to go with Smith or someone else?

Lol, pretty much sums it up that a guy like Damien Martyn, who wouldn't even get close to the All-time Aust side, is over-qualified for this team, whereas NZ have quite a few players who'd make both sides. What's worse is I point this out as a NZ fan

A few people have picked WG Grace plus 2 other all-rounders. Not sure this is permitted, on two grounds:
(1) WG Grace is surely a genuine all-rounder himself (2,809 first class wickets at 18.14!) and
(2) his Test bowling average was under 27
