Extremely idealistic attitude. The question was for people who think averages are too high these days. My personal opinion is that no batsman is undeserving of their average. Not now, not ever.

Eclipsed, no, surpassed, pretty well beyond doubt.
Well, people can argue about whether a player is better or worse than their average suggests, but the average itself doesn't take into account whether you're "deserving" or "underserving", it's simply what you average. Chris Martin may not be as good as his average of 2 suggests, but it's crazy to say he doesn't deserve an average of 2. .Extremely idealistic attitude.
Agreed.
Sanga even has the best leave in the game IMO.
Perhaps, then, the better way of putting is "is <insert player>'s average an accurate reflection of his ability?"Well, people can argue about whether a player is better or worse than their average suggests, but the average itself doesn't take into account whether you're "deserving" or "underserving", it's simply what you average. Doesn't deserve that average IMO.
With a debut high score of 7 it's a very tall order.Who's to say of those 22 not outs he wouldn't have scored 2 runs?
Would be very close to the most in form - though I reckon Messrs Cricket and Kallies would have something to say about that as well.Sangakkara is all class and lovely batsman to watch. Probably the most inform batsman in the world at the moment. Loved watching him bat against Australia.
I'd still pick him ahead of either of them if I had the choice.Would be very close to the most in form - though I reckon Messrs Cricket and Kallies would have something to say about that as well.
He's pure class though, no question - one of my favourite players in world cricket, as well as one of the very best.
Shaun Pollock perhaps?I think he'd be just about the most popular bloke in world cricket atm. Is they're anyone who doesn't like him?
Then do it, lad.Would be fascinated to get a first-chance average, Test-standard-side only average for him since his most recent deinstation as wicketkeeper, actually. Will obviously be lower than said I$C$C-average, but will (I presume) still be superlative.
Worth doing, methinks.
