Sangakkara -- deserving of his average?

Woodster

International Captain
Wouldn't consider giving him the gloves again such has been his impact as a specialist batsman. He is, imo, Sri Lanka's best batsman and because of that I would like him batting around number 3, which would not happen or should not happen if he was keeping.
A classy bat with strokes all round the park, his average has been a touch inflated with the recent not out double centuries against Bangladesh, but he has proved his quality against every nation. Currently one of the very best.

I haven't seen a single ball from today's play, but it appears Sangakkara is playing another tricky innings only a few weeks after playing majestically on a whole 'nutha continent.
Its amazing that this question should be asked (whether he deserves his averages). Even if one were to completely ignore his very good keeping skills, I would still have him as a major contender in a World XI of the day as a pure batsman, thats how good he is with the willow.

anyone else think that Sangakarra has eclipsed Aravinda as Sri Lanka's greatest ever test batsmen?

Sangakkara is all class and lovely batsman to watch. Probably the most inform batsman in the world at the moment. Loved watching him bat against Australia.

Would prefer to watch Clarke on song first, then Sanga.

Gun batsmen though, deserves his average.

Some of those late cut/flicks he played in Hobart were breathtaking. It quite simply looked like he was toying with Australia.

The question was for people who think averages are too high these days. My personal opinion is that no batsman is undeserving of their average. Not now, not ever.

Hmm.

In all fairness he should average between 1.08 and 2 he just gets a great deal of not outs due to batsman going wild due to his poorness and getting themselves out.

These 22 not outs give Martin a much better average than he deserves.

Are you being serious?

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Nearly half of Martins innings have been not outs. If it were less, like most batsmen, he would average <2.
