I'd love to see Greg Inglis is union. There's no doubt about it, he'd be a beast in the sport.

Guess if you look back then High Jump is one thing that changed more than any other sport with the Fosbury Flop.

Does anyone know about the development of basketball? I think they used to shoot from the hip so to speak. Shooting from eye level would bring things like hook shots and jumping into the game and making it more athletic.

Nah that's always been a sought after individual skill.

The main development was in the 90s when teams learned to use offensive screens and pick and rolls to either set up easy baskets for a player or create mis-matches with the opposition defence.

The players probably aren't individually more talented, they just have way more sophisticated offensive and defensive strategies.

How does that make it a niche sport? They play competitive ball in many countries.

The European Basketball League (or whatever it's called) is also extremely popular in mainland Europe.

Erm, the USA are world champions.
The Miami Heat bill themselves as "World Champions" because they won a competition where no-one but the odd Canadian team is invited

If you are talking about international competition then yes, the US are world champions

Do you now who the 2nd best team is?

Turkey

Just so you haven't missed it - Tur- ****ing - key is the 2nd best basketball team on the planet

That's the equivalent of saying that Burundi is the second best baseball team out there so thanks for that

There are more than 1 million registered Aussie Rules juniors in SA alone plus competitions in the Middle East and Asia

I couldn't give a toss if the Heat call themselves world champions when the fact is they're not.

No matter how you try and spin it, Basketball is much much less of a niche sport than AFL which is played in a whole ONE country.

Aussie Rules is massive in Australia and growing at an exponential rate world-wide

Basketball is shrinking at the same rate

IIRC, baseball is fastest growing sport (T20 for idiots)
