So, given Roy's preference for 4-4-2, who'll start for us against France?
Dunno really it's too desperate to contemplate:huh:

Anyway some good news, Barry has been ruled out and Roy has called up Jagielka, methinks he realised his mistake in not taking him, as he's hardly like for like.

Thank **** Jagielka and not Henderson...

Carrick looking like a bit of a fool now, would surely have gone if he'd accepted that reserve place.

Hart and Cole aside, you could arguably pick a better side from the guys who won't be starting against France than the ones who will.

Jagielka used to sometimes play midfield for t'Blades, plus Milner and the Ox cover central midfield too, so it's not like we're short of options in the middle.

Fat Frank could be crocked. To be fair, it should be expected if you train in Arsenals facilities, must immediately turn you to glass.

Oh and yay Jordan Henderson:laugh:

Johnson does not deserve a call up though, and you do not lose a 2nd centre midfielder and replace him with a winger when you've already lost one and replaced him with a centre half.

Yes, if as has been suggested, Carrick and Scholes refused to be back-up go, would be interesting to see the next cab of the rank. Jay Spearing:unsure:

There's Gerrard, Milner, Parker and a number of people who can cover or do some variation of a central midfielder. The sorts of players you are going to use as substitute are going to be elsewhere on the pitch. Plus Henderson is **** and won't make the bench, he would only play if you have a lot of injuries and suspension in advance of a game (don't know if you can replace injured squad players in the tournament itself) - to the point where you mathematically can't pick anyone else.

Adam Johnson should be in the first XI. He is our best winger. Has more class than the other options put together.

If Johnson were that good he'd have played more for Man City. I wouldn't have taken Downing in the squad either but 2 wrongs do not make a right.

As for not making the bench, a player would have to be pretty **** to not make it from a squad of 23 when 12 subs are allowed.

Johnson's overrated but he should definitely be in the squad, at least as an impact sub. Can only speculate as to why he's not, but I doubt it's for footballing reasons. Maybe his attitude is so dire that they just think it's not worth it.

Mancini had a public pop at him over his attitudinal issues (to which his response was refusing to board the team bus; thus rather proving his manager's point), so think you're onto something.
