Flintoff in battle to be fit

Andrew Flintoff is to have a fitness test on Wednesday to test his injured left ankle and determine whether he can play the first Test against the West Indies.

Flintoff suffered the problem while bowling for Lancashire last weekend, and is in severe doubt for the match. An ankle problem ruled Flintoff out of most of the English season last summer.

“He didn’t bowl today. He will bowl tomorrow and we will assess his chances of playing then,” team spokesman Andrew Walpole said.

If Flintoff is ruled out of the match, it’s likely that batsman Owais Shah would come into the team. To date Shah has only played one Test match in his career which was against India in Mumbai 14 months ago, where he scored 88 and 38.
