First ODI washed out

The first ODI between Sri Lanka and India was abandoned after just 18 overs of the Sri Lankan innings.

Sri Lanka had reached 103 thanks to a rollicking 63 from Sanath Jayasuriya. For the home side, Munaf Patel had taken two wickets before the heavens opened.

After a heavy drizzle, the rain stopped, but the outfield was too waterlogged for safe play. There were thoughts of a twenty over game, but the field id not dry up enough, and the match was eventually called off.

Sri Lanka 102-3
Sanath Jayasuriya 63*
Munaf Patel 2-25

Match abandoned – no result
