Darren Sammy bullish, Andrew Strauss optimistic

WestIndian captain Darren Sammy sounded pretty bullish during the official pre-match press conference today. When asked if he was concerned about his personal batting form he replied that he is just one good knock away from being productive with the bat. Sammy sounded pretty confident when he said that they do not really have a concern facing Graeme Swann although the West Indian batting order has four lefties at the top. He also brushed aside any concerns about the dew conditions that the teams might encounter. He replied “Get a towel and wipe the ball”. The man has a sense of humor no doubt. He added that the presence of Ottis Gibson does help the West Indian cause since it was not long ago that Gibson was the bowling coach of England. All in All The West Indian captain seemed pretty pumped up and said they are looking forward to the games here at Chennai.

Andrew Strauss in his pre-match press conference was very optimistic of England’s chances against the West Indies. Answering questions from the media he said he was fully fit and Graeme Swann was recovering well and should be alright to play. However Ahmed Shehzad was not fit and it was not entirely sure if he would be a certain starter which brings Jimmy Anderson right in to scheme of things. When Asked about the temptation to play two spinners against a batting line up loaded with lefties he did not give a straight answer, however he did not rule that out too and to a question about who the “Big Fish” was amongst Gayle and Pollard he said that England respect them but are not scared to face them and the attacking players they are give you more opportunity to get them out.

As I type this the English team are in the middle practicing for the do or die battle. The ground looks absolutely fabulous and should be one of the best in the country. The media box is without a doubt the best and Chennai is bracing for a weekend of cricket fiesta. I’m looking forward to the game and the trip is worth if Pollard can whack a few out of the park.

Till later.. Tata..
