Canning calls it a day

Former Black Cap Tama Canning has announced his retirement following a second major disciplinary breach in the past two seasons.

Canning who played four one-day internationals for New Zealand had been a member of the Auckland Aces domestic team since the 1998/99 season.

Canning decided to announce his retirement after turning up late for the final day of the State Championship match against Northern Districts last week with a hangover.

This followed even worse matters the season before where he allegedly urinated over a bar in an Auckland nightclub and the morning after showing up for the day’s play wearing the same clothes he was seen in the night before and having a big hangover.

Canning told the NZ Herald that he is moving back to Perth where he lived prior to moving to New Zealand to explore career options outside cricket.
