Broad left out of Lord’s XI

In a major surprise, English selectors have opted against selecting Stuart Broad in the first Test against India at Lord’s, starting today.

With Harmison and Hoggard ruled out of the Test and in Harmison’s case, the series, it was widely expected that Broad would make his Test debut at Lord’s, especially after his five wicket haul in the tour match against the Indians last week.

However, the selectors have chosen fast bowlers James Anderson and Chris Tremlett in the final 11 ahead of the young bowler from Nottingham.

England XI: Andrew Strauss, Alastair Cook, Michael Vaughan (cpt), Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood, Ian Bell, Matt Prior (wk), Chris Tremlett, Ryan Sidebottom, James Anderson, Monty Panesar.
