Bichel supports sledging

Former Australian fast bowler Andy Bichel has defended the use of sledging saying it is good for the game.

Bichel wrote in The Guardian “I think sledging is healthy for the game. I don’t really call it sledging – at the end of the day it’s gamesmanship.”

“I’ve never agreed with personal sledging, no Australian has, but everyone will try to throw another cricketer off their game if they can. It might look a bit childish when you see it in a two-minute highlight package at the close of play, but there is a lot at stake.”

Bichel’s comments follow the jelly-bean saga during the second Test between England and India at Trent Bridge.
