Bangladesh ODI captain resigns

Bangladesh ODI skipper, Habibul Bashar, has announced his resignation from the captaincy although he has indicated he wants to continue playing for Bangladesh, if selected.

The move comes as a result of mounting criticism back home after a lackluster World Cup with the bat, where he averaged just 13.12 after nine matches.

“I have made up my mind. I don’t want to be the captain of the one-day side anymore. However, I’ll be available for the one-day squad,” Bashar said.

“I hear lot of talks about me getting picked in the ODI team as I was the captain. So, I have decided to step down from the post to give the selectors the opportunity to pick up the team with an open mind.”

Bashar also indicated that he would like to remain captain of the Test side, but ultimately it would be up to the selectors to decided whether he remains at the helm or even in the side at all.
