Australia Pile On The Runs

Australia have piled up on the runs on day two of their three day game against Leicestershire reaching 582/7 at stumps.

Starting the day at 169/2, Justin Langer and Ricky Ponting started where they left off yesterday and picked off the Leicestershire bowlers with relative ease before Langer became Justin Maunders third victim of the innings with the score at 245.

Damien Martyn then joined Ricky Ponting at the crease and together they put on 201 runs for the forth wicket. Leicestershire’s Overseas Player Ottis Gibson managed to end the superb partnership in bowling Ponting for 119.

Three relatively quick wickets then fell with Simon Katich, Adam Gilchrist and Brett Lee failing to make the most of the batting conditions.

At the close of play Damien Martyn had reached 154 and had Jason Gillespie not out on 49 at the other end.

The big test will come for Australia’s bowlers tomorrow with Gillespie, Lee and Kasprowicz fighting out for two places in the 1st Ashes Test lineup.
