Another injury for Watson

Australian all-rounder Shane Watson is yet again on the injured list after injuring his left calf during his second over in Australia’s Super Eight match against Bangladesh.

Australian team physio Alex Kountouris told AFP that “He has strained his left calf. It’s not oh my God, he’s definitely out of the tournament, but it’s a muscle strain halfway through the tournament so it’s obviously a bit of a concern.”

Watson missed The Ashes due to a hamstring injury, and a similar injury forced him out of the Pura Cup final last year.

Kountouris has effectively ruled Watson out until at least the semi-final stage of the tournament in late April saying “I’ve got to speak to the selectors and the coach and the captain and see what we want to do with him and when the ideal return date is.”

Brad Hodge is Watson’s likely replacement for Australia’s next Super Eight match against England on Sunday in Antigua.
