Anderson replaces Bopara

James Anderson has been named as the replacement for Ravi Bopara for the Twenty20 World Cup after Bopara dislocated his right thumb during the 5th ODI against India.

Bopara has been ruled out for between four to six weeks with the injury.

England coach Peter Moores told the BBC that “Jimmy comes in because we’ve got a few niggles among our seamers. Ryan Sidebottom has been out for a while with side strain, and [Chris] Tremlett and Fred [Flintoff] have experienced some pain too.”

Moores went onto say “It might seem strange replacing a batter with a bowler, but we’ve already got one spare batter. Since we picked that side Luke Wright has come on – we’ve all seen how much he has developed as a cricketer – and he’s holding that place now.”

Anderson will fly out with the England squad providing England receive clearance from the International Cricket Council.
